This shield is historically constructed by hand from wood planks. Planks are 1/4" poplar with a canvas facing and backing. Face is hand-painted in flat red and white acrylic paint made to look like milk paint. Shield boss is hand hammered from 16ga steel. Rim is rawhide secured by clinched copper nails. Handle is made from poplar and treated with boiled linseed oil. Boss and handle are riveted on with steel rivets. Leather carry strap is removable. Shield is 30" in diameter and weighs only about 6.5 lbs without the shoulder strap, much lighter than most replicas. Made in the USA. A great shield if you want a historically accurate piece.
